What We Do
It is the purpose of Southwestern Connecticut Intergroup to promote the unity within the Intergroup, to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, to be aware of and serve the needs of member Groups and to carry the message of Overeaters Anonymous to the compulsive overeater who still suffers.  The Southwestern Connecticut Intergroup does this by:
  • Act as guardians of the Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions and Twelve Concepts of OA Service as specified in the bylaws of Overeaters Anonymous, Inc.
  • Creates and maintain an Intergroup website.
  • Creates and maintains meeting lists, updates contact names and telephone numbers and handles telephone, mail and email queries to the Intergroup.
  • Sponsors and arranges workshops, marathons and other special events aimed at educating, informing, and helping members strengthen their personal recovery, since everything in OA begins with personal recovery.
  • Publish newsletters or bulletins to keep groups informed about each other and about upcoming events.  Distributes up-to-date directories of all nearby meetings, and providing other necessary information.
  • Handles public information, requests from local news media.  Arranges radio and television public service announcements of programs about OA and furnishes OA speakers for outside organizations.
  • Maintains contact with health care professionals in fields related to OA.
  • Arranges a system for groups to obtain abstaining OA speakers.
  • Helps to find sponsors for new members.
  • Maintains a stock of OA and AA approved literature for sale.
  • Sends selected representatives to regional assemblies and delegates to the Wold Service Business Conference which is OA's annual business meeting where your voice can be heard.
  • If needed, maintains an office.
